can't remove page numbers and footer in InDesign doc

Hey there - I used Type > Insert Special Character > Marker > Current page number to add page numbers into a footer on the pages of a document and now I can't remove the numbers OR the footer. I went into pages but ALL the pages have an A on them and nothing seems to work. Can anyone walk me through this? Thank you!

Hi @Cate5CE4:

If you added the page numbers correctly, they will be on the master page. You can see them on the body pages, but can't edit them. Try double-clicking the name A-Master at the top of the Pages panel. Can you select them now?

Did you create the footer and the page numbers on a Master Page? If so try selecting all of the pages in the Pages Panel and then going through the Pages Panel pull-down menu to "Override all Master Page items". That will unlock all of the footers and page numbers on the document pages.
