Can't type into header box on parent page

I've been away from ID for a while, now using it again. I used to make running headers by creating a text box on the parent page(s). Now, I try to do that, and when I type into the created header box, i can't see the text. I tried resizing fonts, enlarging the box, etc, and NO TEXT APPEARS AT ALL, like I'm not even typing anything. I tried resizing the main text boxes to be shorter, allowing a space for the header box, to no avail, and I tried to use the running header variable text thing (new to me) but had no luck with that, either.

What am I doing wrong?

Correct answer Kelli Jae Baeli

cool no prob

So when you make a new text frame - it's defaulting the text to the Book Title style - which has the keep options set to the Next Odd Page

Which forces it to jump text frames and it has nowhere to go.

Change the style to something else or make a new - maybe start over with a new style.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at that and make suggestions.

For clarity (in case it helps others), I got it to work by resizing the main text boxes in the parent pages panel, to make room for the header boxes. I clicked inside the header text box, assigned a plain text font (with no options assigned to make it skip[ to another page). Then, i was able to type in the box and get my headers to work.

Brilliant of you to provide this information. Thank you again!!

Can you post a sample document so we can take a look at what is going on?

Not sure what you can see from this, other than the primary text flow on the left, which i don't recall being there when i did this before. I can't show you, because when i make the header box and try to type, nothing happens, as I said.

also, the book is already laid out...i just forgot the headers until i was finished. yikes. Maybe that is causing the issue? Although, i don't recall WHEN the header is added making a difference in the process.
