Can you use Mac's text replacement in InDesign?

Hi,
Is there a way to use the Mac's built-in text replacements in InDesign?
I have several shortcuts that I would like to use. For example, I set one up to write "InDesign" when I type "ind "or "illu" for "Illustrator." I also have one for my website, phone number, or mail address. It is really handy.

Is there a way to use that in InDesign?

Correct answer Nima S.

You can always do F&C at the end / from time to time - a simple script with assigned shortcut to it.

I just searched on YouTube and found this video. I followed the steps, and now it works just like the Mac.
The only weird thing was that I could not use an @ symbol in the misspelled part. My business email address is "hi@madebynima.com", and the shortcut I created on Mac is "hi@" so I had to do it like this "hi_" to work. This way, you can add everything you like, very handy.

As you already know, Mac's built-in text replacements don't work in InDesign.

In System Settings, Apple misleadingly represents this and some other similar options as some kind of system-wide features, while in fact they only work in a few random apps. So, if you ask me, these features are, in essence, useless.

With Robert's help, you already managed to make autocorrect work as you need in InDesign.

If you do need a truly system-wide text replacement feature, then I recommend a 3rd-party tool. I'm using TextExpander for many years by now. It's great, albeit not free. I think it's a subscription now, but I bought it years ago when it was a one-time payment, and it still works. But I think if you look around you'll find some free or cheaper utilities.

Actually, I had never had any issues with Apple replacements, so I didn't need a better alternative. There were a couple of instances where it didn't work, but that were only a few, so it doesn't bother me much.

For now, I'm happy that I could figure it out for InDesign.

But thanks anyway for the suggestion.

I just tried it out, and it seems to be working, but unfortunately not with mail addresses.
It would be great if it were possible to just use the Mac's replacement, but I think this one is also great to have.
Thanks
