This is a new one for me, being a bit of a novice with InDesign I could use some advice.

I've been working on a 36 page brochure, saved it early in the week as usual.

Came back to it today but it wont open and I'm seeing the following error message:

''This filename may include one or more unrecognised characters. Please change the filename in Windows Explorer and try again.''

First off - the filename is words/numbers with no special characters at all, and secondly, what on earth do I do now?

The instruction seems simple enough but doesn't seem to work. Its a massive loss if I have to begin again.

I hope someone with more experience can shed some light on this please.

    Hi tracied,

Please save the file to Desktop and rename it and then try to open the file.

    That seemed to work thanks.

Must be something about the file path that InD doesn't like

Thanks all for your input - most helpful.

Sounds like something is corrupt. Try opening it as a copy.

If that doesn't work, it may be toast. This is why I always work in a Dropbox or OneDrive folder. These will keep versions every time you hit save.

If you want to post the file somewhere we can take a look and as see if someone else can open it. Barring that, you can try Markzware's file recovery service. If they can't save it, there's no charge. https://markzware.com/products/file-recovery-service/
