Cannot edit text

Well, I've noticed I'm not the only one with this particular issue. I just can't find a solution anywhere.

Okay, so my father has this file, that he's pretty much created on InDesign for years (as far as the most recent being fresh or a copy of a previous I am not sure, but I assume it was fresh not too many versions ago)

He was using CS6 this whole time, and this year his file would not allow him to edit text (in CS6). We assumed it was outdated or so, so we've updated to CC19. Anyway, the file still doesn't allow to edit text and it's been very time consuming attempting to get it to work. It is a pretty detailed file, so starting over isn't the most ideal situation.

By the time I click to the line of text object I can even get the cursor that shows the text edit, but it does not allow to enter into the object, highlight letters, or type anything new (in the object or on the file).

Has anyone found a fix to this?

I've tried it on 2 iMac's, both with the latest OS, haven't tried it on Windows at the moment (its always been created on a Mac btw)

TIA for your assistance, and any solutions I can try.

Greg

I'd start with a Save-As to another location, so as to not write over the original just yet. Save-As can clean a file of some information that was needed at one time, but is no longer needed (such as undo information). The file size usually gets smaller as a result.

If that doesn't work, export as IDML, and then open the resulting file. That will also remove junk data from a file. If those don't work, come back and let us know.

Can you share a link to the file? Happy to take a look.
