Question

Cannot open Indesign File

I am trying to open a document and It keeps giving me an error code. "Cannot open the file "IMG_0224.XMP". Adone InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another window."

I have tried redownloading Indesign, I have tried downloading older versions. I have even totally remade my document and resaving it and it is still giving me this error. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Ok I think I figured out the problem. The file must have been created with an older version. It won't open with InDesign 19.2 but if I install InDesign 18.5 it opens up perfectly. Im thinking there is a plugin that I would have sued to create the orginal file that supports 18.5, hence why it opens up perfeclty fine in that version. But the plugin might not support 19.2 hence the error. Thats my guess but I can't open this file in 19.2 but I can in 18.5

Missing plugin should not be the case because in that case we get a different alert which tells the name of the missing plugin. You can infact check the plugins used in the document and the missing plugins by cmd + click on the "About InDesign" submenu option found in InDesign menu on a MAC, on Windows it should be ctrl click.

InDesign can open INDD and IDML documents.. You can place image files of various formats using the File>place command.

The file extension is XMP! That is not an InDesign document. Or...are you saying you're getting that error opening an InDesign file?
