Cannot print since Windows update

I'm using InDesign CC 13.1 64x on Windows 10 Pro.

Went through latest Windows update process yesterday.

Since then, have unable to print from InDesign to my usual printer which is an HP LaserJet M1005 MFP.

I can still print to this machine from Photoshop, Acrobat (both in same Adobe suite) and MS Word.

Went onto HP's website; can no longer find appropriate driver.

Tried to reload driver (HP LaserJet M1005 Class Driver) from disk (Copyright 2006) supplied with printer.

Could it be that the driver, which would have been originally issued in the days of Windows 7 and 8 when not so many 64x systems were around, has now been pushed off the list of currently compatible drivers?  In other words, is the interface between the latest Windows update, the latest InDesign software and my printer irreconcilable?

Is there a solution to this problem or do we bite the bullet and purchase an up-to-date printer?

As a rule of thumb, whenever you update an operating system, there's a chance that drivers for peripherals will no longer work. Given that your HP is 12 years old, it's a good chance that the drivers are out of date.

Looking at HP's support website for your printer, I noticed a driver download on Oct 2013 for 32- and 64-bit Windows 10. Have you downloaded and installed that?

Also, it lists a firmware update from January 2015. I'd follow their instructions and install that first, then the latest drivers and see if this works.

Download drivers: HP LaserJet M1005 Multifunction Printer - Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support

And in the meantime, export to PDF and print that. But I understand why you'd want to print directly from InDesign. It's one less step, and sometimes there are more printing features from InDesign than from PDF/Acrobat. Depends upon the printer.

    Hope this helps.

Many people have had problems printing since the new Windows 10 update both in InDesign and Illustrator. Apparently Microsoft has replaced the older postscript printer driver with a new PCL printer driver. There have been some reports that reinstalling a postscript driver has fixed the problem.

If HP doesn’t support it then it’s entirely possible it won’t work, but as mentioned by Uwe, exporting to PDF should still be okay and to be perfectly frank, I couldn’t tell you how well my printer works with InDesign since I never print from InDesign. Printing a PDF is the recommended method.

    Hi,

can' tell, but one alternative would be to export to PDF and print the PDF from Acrobat.
