Captions go from Figure 1 to Figure 3

Hi All! Newbie here. I followed a template that had a caption for figure 1 already in place. When I added another figure, the caption started with "Figure 3". I don't know how/where to find figure 2 or how to change "Figure 3" to "Figure 2". I appreciate any and all advice.
