Changes not saved with shared files

Hello.

We are a team of 3 people using InDesign v18.2.1 and working in a local network.

We work the files separately and then gather them in Book. Lately some of the changes we make in the InDesign files are not assumed when other person access the file.

I already contact the Adobe Costume Care – chat support (Case Number:  ADB-29188960-Z8J6 / Issue:  Performance) and they couldn´t solve the problem.

Tip - ALWAYS map your network share as a drive letter - and use the same drive letter on all machines - something like "X:\" - this way, on all machines, all your links in the INDD file will always point to the same location - even if you change server, domain, address IP, etc.

Never ever use \\server\project\...

You need to define "working in a local network".

In order to achieve full synchronisation - you need to have one folder on your server - or if it's peer-to-peer case - one of your computers need to be a designated "master" - and keep all your files there.

If someone is copying one of the INDD files to a local drive to work on their local drive - they have to somehow let others know - so no one else will be editing the same file - and when they're finished - copy this INDD file back to the shared location.

I would strongly advise against working "live" over the network.

I assume that the network does not update the files on the local workstations. The staff members see only what was saved last. It is not an InDesign problem, more a network problem. You shoul contact your IT department.

Hello Willi Adelberger.

Thank you for your time and feedback to find the solution. We realize that the network was and still is having flutuations/instability.
