Is there any way that the background of a published document can be changed when it is not in full screen?

Hi there,

Sorry about the delay in response. I am afraid, this is not possible right now, however, you may upvote this feature request on our UserVoice page(https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/38682517-allow-background-colour-change-when-documents-are).

This is the best way of communicating with the Engineering and Product Management teams regarding issues and suggestions so they can be implemented in future releases.

Random sort-of work around suggestion for a spread-format publication-- if you change the pixel height in the embed code to 345px (where the width is 525px) and you make the start page 2 or change the doc so it doesn't have a single cover-first page, then the grey background simply looks like a very thick border. The pixels may be specific to my layout but you can mess around with it.
