Question

Character styles

When I copy pages from other Indesign documents
into a new document, all character styles are included and
added to the list of character styles. How can I remove that feature?
I just want to use the character styles in the new document.

Can you export the document you want to merge as a Word document? If so, when you place it into the new(er) document, you will get an option to match the character styles (which can be saved for future use if desired).

Could you please rephrase your question?

When you copy pages - only used styles are copied.

If some "unwanted" style is carried over - that means that it is used in the definition of other style - Char or Para - as BasedOn or Nested or GREP.

Put the styles of the source document in a folder (better to work on a copy of that INDD file).. Move the pages and delete the folder and choose which style should be replaced by which file.

I don't think that would be possible via copy pages. To do that you will have to copy the text and paste it into the destination document without formatting.

Or probably how about changing the formatting of all the text in source document's page using Grep query, then move the page to the destination document
