Question

Cloud document used for Text Edit purposes will not load

Hi all, wondering if anyone could give me insight into an issue I'm having with a tight turnaround annual report document. I've updated InDesign, restarted it and cleared my preferences, restarted my computer, disconnected and reconnected to wifi, and I'm still running into this issue. I saved a document to the cloud, and then shared as a TextEdit document so that my client can edit the report text. They were able to edit the text, but now I cannot do ANYTHING in InDesign as everytime I open the document, it gives me a perpetual rainbow wheel. I can force quit and open normal documents saved to my computer, I can open other cloud documents that haven't used TextEdit, but I cannot open this one. Has anyone ran into this and how to solve?

Hi @McKenzie33325534jeqq,

Thanks for sharing the details, I understand how blocking this can be, especially with tight timelines.

I tested the Share for Text Edit workflow on InDesign 21.3 on both Windows 11 and macOS 26.4.1, and I wasn’t able to reproduce the hang on my end. Could you please confirm the exact InDesign version and OS details you’re using so I can align the testing further.

In the meantime, please try signing out of the Creative Cloud Desktop app and signing back in, then check the file again. Also, let me know how you’re opening the document, whether from the InDesign Home Recent section or via the Creative Cloud app under your saved cloud files. If you’re not opening it from the Creative Cloud app, please try that once and see if it makes any difference.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Thanks for the response. I’m using InDesign 21.3 and macOS 15.4.1. I have tried signing out and signing back in, opening the fie from both Home Recent and the Creative Cloud app. I was able to open the file through the Home Recent section and there a delay in the appearance in the rainbow wheel, in which I was able to save locally and see the TextEdit updates. I think that was just a lucky situation though, and not a real fix.

Hi @McKenzie33325534jeqq,

Thanks for the update and glad you were able to open the file.

Since you were able to save the file locally, could you please try saving that file as an IDML, then open the IDML and resave it as a new INDD file. After that, please test the Share for Text Editing workflow again using this newly created INDD file and see how it behaves.

If the issue still persists, it would really help if you could share that locally saved file after packaging it using the steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/preflighting-files-handoff.html#package_files so I can run some tests on my end. If the file is confidential, feel free to share it via DM using any cloud platform like Drive or Dropbox.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek
