Question

CMS compatible with storing <href> tags form InDesign XML?

I am looking for a version controlled Content Management solution that would allow me to store the <href> tags that appear in InDesign exported XML. This is to enable changes to content to be done in the CMS by product, regulatory, copywriting, etc. but then automate the update of InDesign file. These docs have lots of inline graphics, so it's a key requirement. We do have a CMS, but it not only doesn't support the concept of inline graphics, it also doesn't allow the tag to simply be stored as text.

Looking for a no-code solution that could be configured by a non developer. Export of file to either tab delimited or XML(ideal) file.

I'm not familar with using InCopy- but would it control versioning? This is a regulated industry so auditing is important. If we didn't use a true CMS, then managing the InCopy content could be an alternate workflow as it's minimal training to use the app for the non-designers.

Thanks

Is your CMS based on WordPress, Joomla or custom solution?

What do you mean by "doesn't allow the tag to simply be stored as text"?

I have a lot of ideas but I don't know enough about how you're working to make any concrete suggestions. What CMS are you using? How are you tagging up your content within InDesign? Have you considered changing your inline images to anchored images? (It couldn't be that easy, could it?)

InCopy won't do any versioning for you, but if InCopy is a reasonable target format, you could take a look at pandoc which will happily ingest any number of markup formats, and will produce usable .icml (InCopy) files that can be placed and linked in InDesign. I bet you could get them to auto-update upon opening the InDesign file, as well.

But basically, I have never found a CMS that integrates well with InDesignm and have spent the last twenty years or thereabouts processing IDML exports, because IDML is well supported by translation tools. The IDML can be transformed via XSL into other more repurposable forms of XML, if necessary. I suppose the same could be said of just exporting XML content directly from InDesign.

I am not aware of anything - since version cue was discontinued.

Allows import of InDesign files - might be worth getting in touch and seeing if they can help.
