Question

Combine side-by-side columns into one text box

Hi, I have a document set-up in Indesign with two columns side-by-side, but the columns are independent text boxes. Because of this, I don't believe the "Balance Columns" tool will work. And I need to have the text in each column line up perfectly on each page. What can I do without having to redo the whole document which would involve carefully reviewing the text line by line and fixing formatting issues...

  1. Link the second colmun to the first one.
  2. Delete the second column.
  3. Expand the first column to the right.
  4. Change the text frame to a 2-column frame.
  5. Save the 2-column frame as Object style with number 0f column and the size. (Maybe position too)
  6. Do step 1 and 2 on each page, but now apply the object style.

Use text frame vertical justification? (It's an option in the text frame Options dialog.)

I don't usually like using it, but perhaps it's appropriate for your particular layout.
