Combining Index Terms

I have generated an index, however the same term is listed in multiple places (either listed as upper case, lower case, plural, singular, etc.)

Is there a step by step way to combine the terms into one? For example this is how the index currently looks:

Clearance/hold 87, 98, 99, 100, 102. See also clearances/holds
Clearances/holds 88, 99. See also clearance/hold
Climber 22, 63, 179, 180. See also climbers, climbing
Climbers 22, 64, 67, 181, 182. See also climber, climbing

Would rather have one term listing all the page numbers. Thank you,

Index entries are whole-word oriented, so it would take a different index entry to cover the difference between singular and plural. You might simply decide to index the singular forms for your index.

When you generate your index, you have many index formatting options, including Page Range, so that you could show an index that says clearance/hold 87-102.
