compression of imported PDF when exported or published

Hello folks,

 

I've got a large ducument which has many PDFs placed into it.  these PDFs are high-res and involve alot of vector info, fonts etc.  However when I 'publish online' my document those PDFs turn blurry as if they are low res jpegs.  This also happens when exporting the docment to a new 'for screen' PDF.  is there any way to stop this happening... and why does it happen?

Hi @jonathann35156089 ,

when working with Publish Online placed PDF pages or placed InDesign pages or placed EPS or AI files or placed WMF vector graphics are converted to pixel images during the Publish Online export process.

 

The only graphic fromat that is not converted is a placed SVG file.

So to maintain vector graphics as vector graphics with placed PDFs I would suggest the following workflow:

[1] Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and convert all texts to outlines.

Save to a new name.

[2] Open the converted PDF in Adobe Illustrator and save it to SVG.

[3] Place the SVG from Illustrator in InDesign.

 

Note: Editable text on InDesign pages is always converted to SVG outline shapes when output with Publish Online.

    Hi @jonathann35156089 ,

     

    Sorry to hear about the trouble. Could you please share a few more details like:

     

    1. The version of InDesign & OS.
    2. Which PDF presets are you using?
    3. Have you tried exporting it as a High Quality Print?
    4. Is this happening with a specific file or multiple files?
    5. Have you viewed the application in Acrobat Reader or Pro DC? If not, please try and see if that makes a difference.
