Question

Content-Aware Fit default in Preferences conflicts with Parent Page Overrides

Hi gang,

I just noticed this yesterday:

InDesign 2025 Preferences > General > Content-Aware Fit > Make Content-Aware Fit the Default Frame Fitting Option

I like it to be switched ON; but if you go back to the Parent Page and change the size of the frame, and return to the local physical page, the image in the Parent-Page-Supplied-Frame will not change.

If you turn this preference OFF, the size changes on the parent page graphics frame will still influence the local page graphic frame.

Is this a bug?

Anyone else seeing this possible bug?

Hi @Mike Witherell,

Got it! I was able to reproduce the issue this time, thanks for the detailed steps, that really helped.

Let me check in with the product team on this and I’ll update you as soon as I hear back. Appreciate your patience!

Hi Abhishek,

Your video does not show the steps correctly.

1. Make an empty graphics frame on the Parent page.

2. Then go to the physical page and File > Place into that visible frame.

3. Then go back to the Parent and change the size/position of the frame.

4. Finally, go to the physical page again and see the frame size/position update (if preference setting was off) or see the frame not change (if Make Content-Aware Fit the Default Frame Fitting Option preference setting was on).

Note: This does not affect textframes built on the Parent page.

Hi @Mike Witherell,

Thanks for sharing your observation!

I tried replicating this on my end and here is what I got: (recording attached)

Can you confirm if this is the same behavior that you see on your end?

Looking forward to your response.
