Contrapuntal Poem Turned Into Image - Best Approach for Alt Text?

I am converting my print book into an epub in indesign. Most of the formatting is straight-forward, except for a contrapuntal poem (a poem that is two columns, both of which can be read individually or all together if the reader reads across the columns). Due to its formatting, I converted it to an image within the epub. I want to make sure I'm taking the correct approach to the alt text for the image to ensure that those using screen readers will be able to read the poem how it's intended to be read.

Below is how I wrote the alt text. Is this too long? If so, what's the best way to go about conveying this information accessibly?

This poem, titled "boundaries," is a contrapuntal poem. It's structured as two poems placed side by side, separated by a vertical line between them. Both poems can be read individually, or can be read together by reading across the vertical line, forming a new poem.

The poem on the left reads as follows:

it does not serve me, and still,
i ache open
and i split:
i have to say it now
before the smallness gets too big, and
the black hole
of your needs and wants
fills my mouth like a jar. i am
banging on the glass
can you hear
do you see
can i just be

The poem on the right reads as follows:

at times i long to think only of myself
until death comes for me
like a lone tree on a mountain
i owe you nothing
only i am left
in my lonely ecosystem
an empty sky
forever a child
crying out:
me!
me!
me!

When both the left and right poems are read together, the poem reads as follows:

it does not serve me, and still, at times i long to think only of myself
i ache open until death comes for me
and i split: like a lone tree on a mountain
i have to say it now: i owe you nothing
before the smallness gets too big, and only i am left
the black hole in my lonely ecosystem
of your needs and wants. an empty sky
fills my mouth like a jar. i am forever a child
banging on the glass, crying out:
can you hear me!
do you see me!
can i just be me!

You should use <details> markup for the alt text. The third example on this page shows how it's done.
