Controlling text that appears on the page before the footnote

I'm laying out an academic book with lengthy footnotes that split across several pages. How can I control the amount of non-footnote text that appears before the start of the footnote on subsequent pages? For instance, on one page there's only a single line of body text before the rest of the column fills with footnote text, and both the body paragraph and the footnote split onto the next page. Is it possible to increase the amount of body text, pushing more of the footnote onto the next page? 

 

I tried turning off all Keep Options.

 

Here's a screenshot to show what I mean.

Have you tried increasing the 'minimum space before first footnote' and 'space between footnotes' in the footnote Options?

As Barb mentioned: set the keeps of the last paragraph of the footnote to 5 or more to pull more footnote text to p. 157. Keeps in the main text don't prevent single lines in a frame, but inside footnotes they work perfectly fine.

    You are right, Uwe. I can replicate it but none of the keep options help with the single line.

    Did you try enabling the Keep Lines together? Turning them off allows single lines like you are showing us.

    Hi Barb,

    I wonder if "Keep Lines Together" can make a difference here.

    This single line of text at the top of page 156 is in the middle of a paragraph with a lot of lines.

    Not at the end; 15 lines of text are following. And not at the beginning I guess.

     

    That's why I want to see the pages before…

     

    And if we do [x] Keep Lines Together in combination with All Lines in Paragraph I fear that we'll run into an issue with permanent overset text.

    Hi,

    can you show the facing pages where this first footnote starts?

    Currently I have no idea what can be done, but I hope to recreate your situation and try some things.

     

    FWIW: Footnote 1 would be a candidate for an endnote.

    But I understand, that you may not have a say on this.
