Contstant Rainbow Beach Ball Going and Interrupting work.

I have been having an issue with my Adobe InDesign program. Every singe time I open and work on a document in InDesign, I constantly get the rainbow "beach ball" or "pinwheel" interrupting my work. It literally takes me about 5 minutes to try to do something that would otherwise take me 30 seconds to a minute to do. I have been dealing with this for months now, and I thought with the new update, that it would have fixed itself. But, unfortunately I am still unable to work without any "pinwheel" interruptions. Can someone please help me, because nothing is working.
