Copied text doesn't indent

When I copy&paste text into indesign it doesn't indent the first line left indent after every enter but just the first one. I can go back and retype every enter, but there must be another way.

Well there’s your problem. You have forced line breaks, not carriage returns, between paragraphs. The text is behaving as it should, since it is just one paragraph.

Will you please repost the screen cap after choosing Type > Show Hidden Characters?

Are you pasting text from another application? Does the indented paragraph use a different paragraph style from the unindented paragraph? Does the definition for the indented style use the Next Style attribute to call the non-indented style?

I would add "turn on the non-printing characters and see if there is a tab or a run of spaces at the front of the indented paragraph."

Good advice. Any screen capture to show a problem, especially involving text, should show frame edges and hidden characters.

InDesign version? Operating system? Copying text from another InDesign file? (Or from another program? Formatted or unformatted?)

A screen capture would be helpful.
