Corrupt InDesign file

Question

Hi there,

I have an InDesign file that crashes as soon as it opened.

The file doesn't remain open long enough to save as or export as another format.

I have come across the email corrupt_indesign_docs@adobe.com and wonder if this is still active to provide support - so far I haven't heard anything.

There are repair tools that I could try - is there a recommendation for one of these tools?

There are multiple factors both internal and external to InDesign application that can lead to document corruption. However, I can take a look and see if the file can be repaired. Please email your InDesign file to corrupt_indesign_docs@adobe.com and I will take a look at the document.

If the file is larger than 10 Mb, you can zip (and password protect) the file and upload to Creative Cloud account (or Dropbox) and send us the document link.

I'm not sure if this is still active. To be honest I'd not heard of that email address before.

Try this 1:

Have you created a copy of the document and tried opening this?
If you are opening the InDesign file from a Server or other Disk not on your local computer, try dragging the file to your computer and open it there.
Have you tried resetting the InDesign preferences before launching the document?
Have you tried clearing the font cache?

Then try to relaunch the document.

Try this 2:

Are you by any chance running font management that has a plug-in installed into InDesign
If yes, then please uninstall the plug-in or disable font activation, before trying to reopen the corrupt InDesign document.
If no, then please try and disable any fonts used in the document, you might need to temporarily remove them from your system.

Then try to relaunch the document.

Try this 3:

Or are you running any other InDesign plug-ins/extensions?
If yes, disable or uninstall all of these

Then try to relaunch the document.

Lastly, review the following post, and INDDRecovery app link in it. Naturally install and run at own risk, I'd recommend you back up your system first before installing, so you have roll-back options if needed: INDDRecovery — a program for restoring corrupted InDesign documents

Hopefully one of these will allow you to open the document long enough to save it as IDML, so you can try reopening the IDML file in InDesign.
