Create” Button Not Generating New Files in InDesign

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing some issues with the software we commonly use and could really use your help.

Here's the problem:
Every time I click the "Create" button, the software fails to generate a new file. I've tried the following solutions, but the problem persists:
- Restarting the computer
- Reinstalling the software

These methods haven't resolved the issue. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or does anyone have any other suggestions to fix it?

Thank you for providing the details. I understand how frustrating it can be to encounter issues like this.

Please update to InDesign version 19.5, as issues in older versions will not be addressed. Additionally, try resetting the preferences, as Leo suggested. This often resolves a range of issues and might help in your case.

If the problem persists after updating and resetting preferences, please let us know so we can explore other potential solutions.

Thank you for your prompt response and suggestions. I have updated to InDesign version 19.5 and reset the preferences as recommended by Leo. Unfortunately, the issue still persists.

Did you try the Cmd-Opt-N shortcut as suggested by @Laubender ?

Hi @orion_zhao ,

just to make my point clear. There is an old dialog to create a new document.

And there is the standard dialog. The old dialog is more compact and can be enabled through InDesign's preferences. The option is in the first tab of the preferences that is named "General" in the English version.

If that will not help, you could try to add a new document by circumventing the new document dialog altogether with a keyboard shortcut. Of course I do not know if that will work in your localized version of InDesign. For my German version, and also for the English version the keyboard shortcut is:

option + Cmd + N ( macOS )
option + Ctrl + N ( Windows )

So simply add the option key to your usual keyboard shortcut to create a new document.

At least it's worth a try…
