CS5.5: paragraph not able to get closer to object

That's a good idea - hadn't ever used negative text wrap before - thanks. However I'm stuck with the same issue where the heading underneath the object with text wrap (negative or positive) doesn't move in increments as expected but doesn't move at all and then suddenly jumps when you get over a certain amount.

Anyone got any thoughts on that issue?

Thank you so much for looking at my problem Barb - greatly appreciated. However I am not seeing what you are describing. If I delete the image the caption (which is a separate, freestanding box) does not move. I tried saving as an IDML file (a tactic we do use for janky files) but that did not help. But, in playing around with the files over and over I think I see how to fix my immediate problem although I do still have a query as to why ID is behaving as it is.

I fixed the problem by decreasing the leading on the heading paragraph - as I decrease the leading the line moves up nearer the box above it, which is what I wanted. If we only ever have single line headings we are good to go! Embarassed I didn't try that earlier. I did check the return at the end of the line wasn't a different size.

Something I still don't understand though is what makes the line jump when I add text wrap to the bottom of the box above it, as shown in my images above. I can reproduce this in a blank document, in CS5, 5,5 and 6. See dummy document - https://www.dropbox.com/s/pv9h08vvf199ub9/test.indd?dl=0. If I increase the text wrap on the bottom of the object (picture and caption grouped) the heading below doesn't move until I get to 6mm and then it jumps. I would expect it to move 1mm at a time.

Thanks all. I did as Barb suggested - turned the Baseline Grid on in the View settings and the paragraph in question (none of them in fact) are aligning to it. Ditto the document grid. As per Uwe's suggestion I checked the text frame's properties and the Basline Grid options are turned off/unticked.

I have uploaded some images to demonstrate what's happening - the box above having 0mm text wrap, the box with 6mm text wrap (no change) and then the box with 7mm text wrap (big jump).

It's hurting my head!

Thanks Barb and Uwe - I'll double-check that when I get into work in the morining but I'm pretty sure it is not that. I have seen that problem before so have already checked for it. But would love to be proved wrong!

Thanks for your reply. That's the first thing I checked - the para style is definitely not aligned to any grid. In fact I selected the whole story and none of the text was aligned to the grid, accordingtothe icon in the bar.
