Hi @cesare_4756, no that isn't an option in InDesign, though as per @Peter Spier, scripting may be your answer.

In my experience on both apps, 90% of my tool switching is between the Selection tool and the Type tool.

Using the keyboard:

Tap T for the Type tool and either Esc or V for the Selection tool. (Esc if you have an active insertion point and T if you don't.

(For the other tools, just hover over a tool to see the single key shortcut in parentheses, to the right of the tool name.)

Using the mouse:

Double click the Selection tool on text to switch to the Type tool, press Esc to switch back.

I find the second technique to be more practical so that's what I teach my students to use. Not sure if this will help you, but it's worth a shot.

I don't write scripts, but there are plenty of folks here who do, and I suspect this would be pretty easy to do, then assign the ctrl + Spacebar as a shortcut to the script.

switching between the two latest controls

I haven't used PageMaker in 24 years. Can you provide more detail on what Ctrl Spacebar did? Do you mean tools

Yes, in Windows, with an easy and quick control-bar you could switch
alternatively between the tool in use and the previous tool.
It often happens to make interventions using the same two tools (example:
move a text frame, modify the text, move another text frame, modify that
text, …).

I also used Page Maker until inDesign appeared in our life.

In addition to the suggestions of @Barb Binder and @Peter Spier, you can also assign custom keyboard shortcuts to your tools in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts; that is shortcuts that use modifier keys (not just a single letter).

This way, you don't need to worry about entering a letter if you're in text editing mode; the shortcuts will consistently work under any circumstances.
