Data Merge Multiple Records - Isolating records from other elements?

Hi there,

It's my first time posting on Adobe Support Community forums. I have recently learnt how to use Data Merge in InDesign which is fantastic. I have also figured out how to place multiple records on one page, which is essentially what I want to do (I think)

My issue is: I want to have the records multiplied on the page but I don't want it to also multiply the other elements I have placed on the page. I have tried to lock the other layer but it doesn't prevent it from also being duplicated. I will attach images of the trouble I am having.

Here is what is happening:

Here is what I want it to do (I've done this manually) :

I would really appreciate if anyone has any solutions or tips!

Thank you!!

Correct answer SJRiegel

If you place the constant (non-repeating) items on the Master Page, and your data template items on the document page, it will do as you are expecting.

Thank you so much! I don't work in InDesign often so I sometimes forget what master pages are capable of - thanks for reminding me! It worked.
