Question

Datamerging Swatches

Hi all,

I have several large indesign files which datamerge a combination of text and graphics, but I desperately need to them to also control swatch colours. Each record will have a different value for each Kit Colour 1-8. These swatches are then applied to text, shapes, and used within object styles to colour grey-toned psd's, pngs, etc (which can not be changed from this format or into vectors as they are too complex).

Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you

As far as I remember a standard datamerge does not allow you to specify the formatting, even naming styles, to apply in your design once imported.

That's where XML is bringing your work to the next level, because you can include styles naming with content.

All the placeholders for the data contain all the formatting which is based on object styles and/or swatch colours so most of the formatting is already done. As I flick back and forward between more than one record in a giant excel sheet, everything except for swatch colours changes accordingly and perfectly.

I don't think XML is suitable from what I've watched online.
