Deleting story from a document

Hello. 

I am having difficulties programmatically deleting a story from a document.  I have a UIDRef to the story I want to delete, but I cannot figure out how to delete the story from the document.  I have spent way too much time trying to accomplish a task that is probably relatively simple to perform.  I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could tell me how to accomplish this, lead me in the right direction, or provide me with a sample.
