Disappearing mouse cursor

Question

I'm finishing up a 15-indd-file book. It has lots of hyperlinks and cross-references. Some of them are not working because I entered them in the individual chapter files before incorporating the chapter files into the book. I know how to fix those, but I'm having one problem. 14 of the files are behaving just fine; it takes just a few seconds to redo the links.

When I place the cursor where I need it in the 15th file, the mouse cursor simply disappears for 20-25 seconds in ID. If I move it outside the ID screen, it's visible and works fine. This is happening with only that file. I did try saving it as an indl and then recreating the indd file from that, but it did not solve the problem.

I have done some internet research and made the recommended changes with respect to display settings and the like, but I see no improvement.

Grateful for ideas.

Problem solved, with Robert Tkaczyk's great help. I created a new document from the template, moved the pages from the corrupted document into the new one, removed the corrupted document from the book, added the new document, and all is well. The problem was that the corrupted document called for fonts that ID did not have, so ID was spending lots of time looking for them. Using File/Package, I was able to substitute fonts that ID does have.

Thanks for sharing the details. Since this is happening with only one of the book files, it could be related to a file-specific issue or a corrupted element within that document. Please try exporting that problematic file to IDML (File > Export > InDesign Markup Language(IDML)), then reopen the IDML to create a new INDD file and check if the issue persists. Also, confirm if the delay occurs only while interacting with hyperlinks or any specific objects.

If possible, please share your operating system details and the InDesign version, along with a short screen recording showing the cursor behavior, so I can review it further.
