Question

Document failure

Hi, I'd like to ask for help solving a problem. I received the files for repair. Unfortunately, they are corrupted. I can open them, but I can't work with them. Copying elements or even deleting the character style causes the application to crash. Even deleting all elements in the publication doesn't change the situation. Deleting the character style causes the crash. Attempting to save to *.idml is also impossible. Has anyone found a way to fix this?

Are you able to open the file and then move the pages into a new document? That also can sometines work.

Save or export as IDML and open that and save as new INDD.

If people read with understanding, the world would be a better place. I wrote that trying to save to idml causes a crash.

It may not work, but you can try this script: Blind open and IDML-export

Since the file doesn't open in the UI when it runs, it might work whre export from the UI does not.

Hi @Messer Woland,

Thanks for sharing all the details. I understand how difficult this must be since the file keeps crashing on every attempt to work with it. I'm checking this with our product team to see what can be done and will get back to you as soon as I have an update.

Best,

Abhishek

Hi,
The problem is probably the paragraph style (one or more). There are headings in the document. One of them (in the screenshot) has the style "_G_A_head" in the "GRAMMAR" folder - but it's not listed (see screenshot). It also can't be found via F/C.
