document size and book size

Hi,

Here is a draft I wrote on A4.

I am planning to make it EPUB.

When I start the work, I should set the document size in Id for a new document.

I have no idea about which document or book size is the best fit.

My draft has many graphs and figures and some tables.

I am not considering a paper version.

You'll have to redesign the publication -  the mock-up you've posted wouldn't work as a Reflowable ePub, For this format it's best to stick to a simple one-column layout. Also, you need to undstand the issues of the format, for example, all images need to be anchored, no folios and InDesign Parent Page content is not implemented.

All that. It's possible to do some flowing integration of images and text, but in general, reflowable EPUBs need to be a single, linear stream. But no columns, no sidebars of more than a few lines, pretty much no complex page layout at all.

Presumably this is to be a FXL ePub (not a Reflowable ePub).

I suggest you produce it as single pages, rather than facing pages so it has a chance of being reasonably readable on Tablets and even (maybe) Smart Phones.

I forgot to say that I am looking for a reflowable format.

Oh. I, too, assumed you meant to do this in fixed layout because of the charts etc.

Source document page size and layout is completely irrelevant to a reflowable EPUB export. No aspect of page size, margins, layout etc. is part of the export.

Use any size that's convenient for you to work in.

It will be all about fitting a reader screen best. For computer-based readers, with lots of screen space and adaptable ratio, it's not too important. For things like Kindle, pretty sure it's a 2:3 ratio (6x9 pages, etc.) Probably can't go wrong with about that size and ratio.
