Question

Does InDesign still support 'Go to Destination' action for buttons??

Hello,

I used to be able to create buttons in a table of contents in a masterpage to navigate large documents.

The button would use the 'Go To Destination' action linking to a Text Anchor hyperlink destination.

Is this still supported in the latest versions of InDesign?? I'm not longer able to get this to work.

I know I can create 'go to page' buttons in Acrobat. But for this project it'd be too time-consuming.

The only option that works is if I create a Hyperlink that goes to a Text Anchor.

This works OK - the main advantage of the button is that it looks nicer and is more intuitive for the user as I can create a hover/rollover effect.

If button action 'Go to Destination' is not longer supported, is there a way to have a rollover effect in hyperlinks?

thanks!

I'm suddenly having this problem too. moved to the latest version of InDesign 14.0.1 and a document I'd created and worked absolutely fine with buttons going to a destination (named anchor) gives me the warning 'The Go to page button is not supported in this pdf...' when I'm trying to write the interactive pdf. What's changed? I'm pulling my hair out!!!

It's working fine for me in InDesign CC 2018.1, the current version. In fact I wrote about this in another posting yesterday (with my screen captures):

Create buttons to jump on Nth page

If they're not working, you could try restoring your InDesign preferences:

Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences

The hyperlinks might not work in the PDF if you don't turn them on when choosing File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print) at the bottom of the General panel.

    Thank you, Steve

Still no luck – I tried restoring Preferences but issue still persists.

The odd thing is that I'm able to open old InDesign documents that had this set up and they work well.

I'll keep trying – Glad to hear that the functionality is still supported!
