drag image from word to indesign

I was surprised to learn that i could drag an image from a word file to indesign and then more suprised that it  would live on the indesign page and print but not generate a link.

 

How does this work. Thanks for any simple explanation you can provide.

Hi Renee, you can try Peter Kahrel’s script to “unembed” images and create a link. the script can be downloaded here: https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/indesign/unembed_images.html

THis is the same as pasting the image into InDesign. THere is no file so there is nothing to link to.

 

You can duplicate the Word file, change the extension to.zip, then unzip it. Any imaages in the Word file will be in the decompressed archive.
