Question

"Effects" applied to one image appear repeatedly across that image

I applied bevel/emboss to an image, since then those effects multiply themselves and appear repeatedly across that image. I can get rid of them with "clear transformations" but they continue to reappear at random. The image is from iPhone 13 and I am using the latest ID vers. 19.5. See attached example. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @palmbeachishot ,

it would be interesting to see if your image is placed in several graphic frames so that the effect is applied to several frames.

In that case just remove all frames but one and change the width of the remaining one.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I did check for that possibility, and even cleared the entire spread and rebuilt it from scratch. The effects are still duplicating themselves, but they do not survive the export, so it's all good in the end. Perhaps another ID update will help, but I don't have more time to spend on a diagnosis! ty

Hi@palmbeachishot ,

hm, if you are on macOS I would turn off GPU support temporarily from InDesign's preferences.

Maybe that will help…

@palmbeachishot You can also open the 'Effects' Panel. Select the Effect (fx), and click on the trash can to delete it too.

Thanks for the help! So far delete/recreate is working, I do have the original image, and the glitch does NOT come through on export to PDF so it is not a faulty photo, it's clearly ID.

Delete the image and frame, create a new frame and apply a clean object style, then re-place the image in it.

If that doesn't fix the glitch, use the save to IDML, open, save to INDD under a new name cleanup trick.

Also see if the glitch persists in a PDF export; it might be a screen rendering error.

Thanks, I did the delete/recreate and so far it has held on the front cover. Now it is also appearing on the back cover. The only common denominator btn the 2 is that both spreads are "no bleed" format. Will delete/recreate the same on that one. Normally I place the photo before applying effects to try out different settings, perhaps applying effects to frame before placing the photo has made the difference. Appreciate the help!
