Embed Fonts to Export Fixed Layout EPUB to upload to KDP

I have been exporting an InDesign document to a fixed layout EPUB form and uploading it to Kindle Direct Publishing. When I export the file it looks great on iBooks, but when I upload to KDP the formatting changes (the text compresses and looks different). I talked to the KDP people and they said I need to embed the fonts to fix this problem. How do I do this?

Fonts are embedded by default, without any option to avoid it, for FXL exports from InDesign.

There are various licensing issues that can keep fonts from being embedded, but you would get warnings on EPUB export if that were the case.

KDP is almost useless in these situations; they have automated evaluation and 'help' systems that rarely address actual issues. I am not sure there are any humans in the support loop at all.

What fonts are you using in the book, and from what sources?

Liberation Serif, which is a certafied adobe font. I tried using Adobe Garamond and it still has the same effect when I upload to KDP (the text compresses and can hardly be read). Unsure what to do next...

Those fonts - any Adobe fonts - should work fine.

I am on a limited keyboard, but will try to give a better answer when I can, later today.

The basic question, as always, is why you are using the (problematic and limited) fixed format instead of reflowable. Fixed or FXL should be avoided for all but "art" books whose pages are largely images. Text books should use reflowable.
