Endnote numbers duplicating text before it

Hi everyone! I am fairly new to the InDesign world and have started with the 2019 version. I have noticed an odditiy and cannot seem to find it addressed anywhere so that gave me hope that maybe I'm doing something in the wrong order. Anyway here is my problem. I have noticed with live endnotes something is causing a duplicate of so many characters before the endnote number. I haven't found a common denominator as it does it with plain text and special styles but not in every instance. It seems sporadic. Here are a couple of examples: 

Southern slaveholders and their interests, a theme that came to define the entire party up to the beginning of the Civil War.ng of the Civil War.14

Bill of Rights as finally ratified substantially increased the strength of the central government at the expense of the states. the states.15

Does anyone have any ideas?
