Endnotes don't work with a book file?

So, I got endnotes to work in ONE document with multiple stories for chapters. BUT I guess that endnotes absolutley DON'T work over a Book file with multiple docs for the chapters. Is that right? I tried and tried but no luck trying "load the place cursor" instead of "on a new page" but if you switch to a document where you want the notes to be placed (even if in the book file .indb) it doesn't work, the link is broken.

This is really unfortunate. A very long book with multiple stories is just much harder to deal with all the weird issues that are coming up (adding pages, overset text) arrgh! Book files with multiple docs are way easier. I updated to 2018 specifically for the endnotes. I can't run 2019. Has anything changed re: endnotes and books files?

Hi Sue: Endnotes are fairly new to InDesign, and have plenty of room for improvment. I found a feature request that matches yours—votes get Adobe's attention, so please add your vote here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/35140396-continuous-numbering-of-footnotes-and-endnotes-en.
