Endnotes Not Adopting Paragraph Style Font from Imported Word Document in InDesign

Are the end notes in the Word doc assigned a defined, named style?

Are you using the import menu to make sure the Word style(s) are matched to your chosen ID style(s), at least for end notes?

Have you tried just selecting all end notes and applying your chosen end note style, then use "Clear Overrides" alone to see it that preserves italics etc.?

Have you tried replacing spot italics (and bold, and bold-italic) in Word with defined character styles? (This might be easier to do in ID.)

The problem is likely a combination of all of the above, starting with sloppy/erratic application of Word styles and spot-override formatting with italics etc. Clean all that up and the problem(s) should resolve.
