Question

epub export page orientation with tablets

Hello

What is needed to have a tablet ( Ipad ) automatically shift page orientation to vertical or horizontal layout  of an epub exported from Indesign ? I have designed an alternate layout but do not see any additional feature to allow for this behaviour. Is some scripting needed ?

Also: there used to be a folio builder panel in Indesign 2014 version or CS6. I do not have these versions any longer. What workflow is now needed to create folios / articles / vertical scrolling ?

As an alternative to the old DPS option, Mag+ might be a solution. Does everything you describe without the need for scripting.

It's not the most inexpensive option, though.

PDF solutions like Mag + and more flexible solutions like Issuu Digital Publishing Platform for Magazines, Catalogs, and more - Issuu  are one route.

If you want to host yourself consider in5 Digital Magazines, Mobile Apps, Web Banner, Microsites, & more from InDesign with in5 - Home

The latest version of InDesign is worth installing if you are going to export to FXL ePub.

If you want to have lots of bells and whistles have a look at in5 Ajar Productions: Design Design Software (Makers of in5)

That is not a feature for EPUB. The folio builder was for the now-defunct Digital Publishing Suite.

Well, without being a coder I understand that epub is basically a html5 file and that some features of ePub consider page orientation. So it should be possible to take into account the alternate layouts of Indesign and add some coding or some export tagging.

As to the folio builder; why was this feature discontinued ? I came across this only after extensive reading through lots of help menus as Adobe help still gives advice on this CS6 feature and some tutorials still exist on youtube.

Re dropping DPS, things come and go, it went!

Re creating alternate layouts for upright and landscape, I don't think people bother doing that any more.
