Question

epub footnotes numbers are doubled? Help!

Hello!

Working on exporting a long book with nearly 200 footnotes. Around footnote #40 the numbers double in the footnote (see image). Not sure what is causing that or where to look - it certainly isn't doubled in the InDesign file, only once its exported to epub. It did not do this with the print version. I have done a few epubs now and not run into this before!

Also hoping to tighten up the look of the footnotes (currently having them at the end of the paragraph) but would like to resolve this first. It did the same then when exported with pop up footnotes, as well as footnotes as endnotes.

Any ideas are welcome! Thanks in advance!

Was there any response to this question? I have the same issue right now.

Footnotes and even more so end notes are fragile in InDesign, especially when exporting to EPUB. Before we go off on any complicated journeys, try this: "purge" the ID file to remove any corrupted content. Save it to IDML, open that file and save it as INDD under a new name. There may be small glitches that need to be fixed after that, especially with any spot formatting, but this process often fixes persistent problems and doc corruption.

Thank you for the quick response! Your solution worked for some of my footnotes, but not for others. There was definitely something corrupted. The ones it didn't work for, I simply had to delete and replace. If anyone else runs into the issue, I would definitely recommend trying the solution above first. It did save me some individual replacements.
