Question

EPUB to PDF

Hi there,

I have a 65-page fixed-width layout EPUB built in InDesign CC 2018.

On 10 of the pages, I have full-screen image slideshows (These are multi-state objects with button arrows to sequence through the slideshow)

I need to export the EPUB as a PDF so it can be submitted for internal content review with the client. It has to be a PDF.

However, when I export the EPUB as a PDF it obviously is missing the interactivity for the image slideshows and only shows the first image in the slideshow sequence appears in the PDF.

Is there a quick way to separate out the multi-state object slideshows into their own pages in a PDF (without manually doing it in InDesign before exporting)

Thanks in advance,

Eoin

Define quick.

MSOs are unsupported in PDF so you’d need to select each state and export the page with that state visible. Could be scripted if you do a lot of this.

Hi Bob,

As per usual, thanks for your response.

There are 10 MSO slides in the EPUB with 5 states in each, it would result in having to manually extract 50 pages which will take some time which I was trying to avoid

I was hoping I was missing an export option perhaps.

Thanks,

Eoin

Here’s a blog post I wrote years ago about the same issue in DPS. It might help if this is just for review:

It may seem like a lot of work but it really moves along pretty quickly.
