Equation numbering and conditional text

Question

I have a document that has conditional text (I-P and SI units). I have set up styles for each unit's equations (initial and continuation). Each unit's equations must have their own sequence (1,2, 3, 4, etc.) So, when the SI or I-P conditional text is turned off or on, the equations show the proper sequential numbering.

Currently, if the I-P equations are all in order, the numbering is ok. But, our usual set up is to put each unit's equation one after the other (I-P eq. 1, SI eq. 1, I-P eq. 2, SI eq. 2, etc.

If each unit is paired, the next equation starts numbering from the last equation instead of the previous sequence (see attached visual).

I brought up the conditional text only in case there is something I can do using that to help keep the I-P and SI unit equations separate so that each unit's equations number sequentially.

Would setting it up as a paragraph style help

Just thinking if the equation is a table - then the I-P and SI part is in a row by itself.

You could have a Paragraph Style with Bullets and Numbering
and in the Numbering section you could setup a style like this

I-P^y(#)

Where ^y is a right indent tab and # is the numbering

Then another style for SI setup the same way

You can now control the setup of the numbering

I'd need to see a sample document in InDesign of your current setup - not working

And a sample document setup with a sample set of what you're trying to do

But I think Numbering might work.

If not might be another way that I havne't thought of

but seeing a sample set would be crucial to building it correctly.
