Error: cannot save to file '..', because it is already open

I am having trouble saving pdf files from Indesign (CC 2017).

When I export to pdf, it opens in acrobat, nothing strange but when noticing a mistake in text or artwork, normally I close (not quit acrobat) the pdf,

return to Indesign and make the change and repeat to export as pdf with the same filename etc.

Last days this dialog box pops up with 'cannot save to file '..', because it is already open'.

I have to quit acrobat to be able to save and replace the pdf with the same name.

Is this a cache problem? Who can help to solve this?

Just did a test because its triggering me that we all at our studio have the same issues,

it did a test to my local HD and this goes well, pdf is replaced without an error....

We use a MacMini as server, all our jobs are opened and saved through our network nothing local. I'm gonna look there to restart or clean caches if this solves this problem.

restarted our macmini server and cleaned some cache,

after this did several tests, did go well and for now seems oké!

InDesign does the old "can't save because it is already open" thing when saving the document. I'm on Windows and using InDesign 2023. Have to save with a different name ...

cleaning cache didnt work for me but uninstalling indesigncc totally and reinstalling worked like a charm.

grumpy workflow averted.

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!!! OMG!! I seriously spent 2 days trying to figure this out, and ALL I HAD To do was make sure ADOBE was closed, NOT Necessarily my "Open file". Thank you so much for posting this answer. I'll be forever grateful.

On which operating system are you working on? On windows file is locked by application and hence cannot be saved wit the same filename unless the pdf is closed.

Ok... this is weird but did you add the PDF to an email? If the email is still open, then the PDF is still open and in use. Could that be the issue? I run the same system as you and have had no issues. You can also try resetting your preferences and see if that clears out any corruption.
