everything disappears in presentation mode

Had a file come back from editing and on one page everything disappears in presentation mode. It's not on a separate layer, and it's all indesign objects or text, and nothing is selected in the attributes panel. When I export to an idml file, nothing comes in except for an object on the master page. Any new items show up correctly. I've enclosed a link to the page for testing.

I was able to go back to a previous version and recover and update from there, so this is to figure out what went wrong in the first place. thanks in advance!

    ok it just got interesting...

had to ok it 3 times, but the items are still there and they don't show in press mod. so i guess it's corrupt. I might do some more testing

    thanks everyone for their thoughts.

    Hey Mike:

One additional option is to email your InDesign file to corrupt_indesign_docs@adobe.com to see if they have time to look at your file. If the file is larger than 10 MB, upload it to either your Creative Cloud account or Dropbox and then send them a link to the document.

The problems travel when you cut and paste into a new document. Here's the orange graphic (which is a text frame) pasted into a new doc. It's on layer 1 and I've drawn a blue box in the layer above and the graphic still stacks above.

Also if any transparency is applied the fill disappears

I tried it on my Win10, and the strange thing:

    1. Transparency worked well (fill opacity decreased according to my settings);

    2. duplicating the objects by moving them with ALT pressed solved the problem

the right sample is the original one, totally invisible; the left one is the copy (not by CtrlC/CtrlV but by ALT-moving).

it's visible in the Pages and Layers panels, follows the normal layers order and appears well in the Preview/Presentation mode.

but I still can't say how and why this works

When I deleted the main red-filled rectangle and redrew it from scratch, the problem went away. It is possible that the individual frame had become corrupt.

and copying the items to a new document doesnt help, or on a different computer.

    Hi Mike:

I'm stymied. Here's a clue for the next detective ready to take up the case.

The master page item is behaving normally. It shows up on the Layers panel, and on the Pages panel thumbnails. It does appear in Preview mode.

Those page 1 objects do not appear in the Layers panel, on the Pages panel thumbnail, or in Preview mode.

Never seen this before—but it certainly emphasizes the importance of incremental backups.

Thanks for looking! I agree. I looked at those also. I first thought something weird in layers, but nope. and changing the colors of the objects does nothing.

I was really surprised that (and the layers dropdown confirms it) that nothing shows up when doing the IDML file save... not even empty boxes.
