Question

Excel formatting not coming in with file placement

I placed an Excel 365 file in InDesign (up-to-date) and the every-other-row background colors did not come with the placement. I did the every-other-row colors with an Excel formula I found on You Tube. Any ideas on what went wrong?

Thanks to those who know more than me,

Joe

Bill's answer is correct, but typically you're going to be prompted for that whether you select show options or not. Selecting formatted table should work for most formatting.

What I don't quite understand is what you mean by "I did the every-other-row colors with an Excel formula I found on You Tube."

What does that mean?

In case of a formula and not a macro - conditional formatting.

I was thinking that, too, and I'm not sure InDesign can read that.

When you place the excel file using File>Place make sure that Import Options is checked in the Place dialog window that appears. When you then choose the Excel file you will get the Microsoft Excel Import Options dialog window. There you can use the pull-down menus in the Formatting area to make sure that any styles established in the Excel file will be imported.
