Question

Export from InDesign to PDF

Hi,

I have the impression that InDesign only exports documents from the InDesign format to PDF. Is that correct? Is it possible for InDesign to export directly to Word, or is PDF the only option?

I already mentioned that option.

To clarify @Robert at ID-Tasker 's post, you can export _selected_ text to RTF (not .docx). Just open the .rtf file and save as to .docx.

Also, depending on the complexity, you can create a PDF, then in Acrobat Pro, export the PDF to Word. It might require some cleanup so you will have to check it out to see if it is worthwhile.

What if your final goal? To export the content for further edits? You might consider a different workflow in the future. For example, editors could use InCopy to edit the InDesign file directly ($5/month subscription) or you could purchase Em Software WordsFlow to link the Word document when placing in InDesign.

Also, have you ever looked at the export options? That would have answered your question.

You can export / extract text contents - of selected Stories - one-by-one or all selected using a dedicated script / 3rd party tool.

You can also export whole document as ePUB or HTML.

You can also export individual objects as JPEG / PNG.

Hi @10381466_kirkebø_5122,

To support what Robert mentioned, here’s a helpful Adobe helpx article that covers the various export options available in InDesign: https://adobe.ly/3EcXe7Q.

If you’re working on a specific workflow, feel free to share more details.
