Why is the PDF/X-3 and X-4 option not available in PDF export?

    Hi,

you have to set color management options in Indesign again and PDF X/3 , X/4 will be enabled again.

    Good point Petr,

indeed, if color management of a document is set to off, PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-4 is grayed out in PDF export.

From my German InDEsign CC 2019. Color settings before creating a new document. Color management turned off:

Trying to export it to PDF/X-4:

Another try with the PDF/X-4 export setting itself that comes with InDesign:

But there is no surprise here. PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-4 do only work with color management turned on.

And quite frankly, you are playing with fire if you really think you can use any Adobe application with Color Management disabled in any way. Adobe applications assume ICC color management!

The corresponding joboptions files are available on my Windows 10 system with InDesign CC 2019.

They should be available for all CC apps that are using PDF Export features like InDesign, PhotoShop and Illustrator.

And they would be independent of the version of InDesign. Can you see them with e.g. InDesign CC 2018.1?

Hm. Did you perhaps uninstall Acrobat Pro DC recently?

Once I saw issues with this where all standard joboption files were removed while uninstalling Acrobat on a Windows system.

    Uwe

What operating system (exactly)? They're available in my system (Mac).

You may need to try uninstalling and then reinstall. You could have a bad installation.

It is available in Export to PDF Print.

    BTW. Don't use X-3, use X-4 only.
