Export indesign to Word

The esasiest way is to export a pdf from Indesign, open it in Acrobat and export it to Word. It is not really exact, but Word is a dilapidated app anyways ...

Have a look at the following discussion, basically one way is what you already have been doing ie INDD->PDF->Word. Other ways are some products that have been listed in these discussion with varying degree of accuracy and related pros and cons, you can read an judge for yourself

You can export the text of a text frame or story (text frames linked over multiple columns and pages) to a Word documnet. This will preserve most cahracter and paragraph formatting and tables, including character and paragraph styles. It won’t preserve graphics and layout, sich as margins (except paragraph margins).
