Export PDF bug - with font substitution

Hi

I'm on the latest version of Indesign.  ID was not creating a PDF when I was exporting - tracking down why it was doing this i found out that it only failed if I took up the option of resolving a missing font issue that came up on the export.  If I ignore the message, it creates the PDF.

Yes, that is how it works.
If you 'take the option' of resolving the issue, then, of course, the export stops and you can resolve the issue, save your document, and the export again.

If you do export with a missing font you get into trouble because text looks different in the exported PDF because another repkacement font will be used.

In short: expected behaviour.

Ok, more information then.

I'm saving over the top of an existing pdf because it's a Onedrive share point file, so I need to do this to retain any links to it.

On going to create the pdf it gives me the opportunity to replace the font.  I accept. (The issue here is just that we have different users on

Windows & Mac, and the fonts are on the systems - for reasons i won't go into - with slightly different names.)

i select the replacement font.

A process definitely starts as the existing file is removed by indesign.  But no replacement file is made.

Surely the solution is

(1) resolve your font issue - get rid of missing fonts

(2) export with font embedding

Then the fonts that the Mac or Windows users have don't matter a bean; your embedded fonts are used to display it. (Unless they intend to edit it, in which case tell them not to!)
