Question

Exporting Jpegs from Indesign

If I replace an existing jpeg with the same name via Indesign export, the file size stays the same in finder, even if I halve the size of the jpeg.
If I then open the jpeg and save as in Photoshop, the file size drops correctly.

It could be a case of Finder not updating the file size (although it’s hard to say without all the additional details requested by @Abhishek Rao). Also, keep in mind that every time you resave JPEG as JPEG, the compression is applied once again, and thus its quality (and the size) can be reduced further.

Hi @johntardif,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you experience this. Could you please confirm the exact InDesign version and macOS version you're currently using?

Additionally, could you please share a short screen recording demonstrating the issue in action? It would also be very helpful if the recording shows the JPEG export settings being used before overwriting the existing file, so I can better understand the behavior and investigate this further.

Looking forward to your update.

Thanks,
Abhishek

Hi @johntardif

I hope you're doing well.

I wanted to follow up and check if you're still experiencing this issue when overwriting JPEGs exported from InDesign. Were you able to gather the InDesign and macOS version details, and does the file size still appear unchanged in Finder after export?

If the issue is still occurring, a short screen recording showing the export process and the JPEG export settings would be very helpful for further investigation.

Looking forward to your update and happy to continue assisting.

Thanks,
Abhishek
